Tatra National Park, Kuźnice
Kuźnice is where most serious walking in the Tatras actually begins, a cluster of buildings and trailheads at the edge of the national park just south of town. The cable car up to Kasprowy Wierch leaves from here and carries people up into a completely different world of bare rock and alpine air within minutes. On foot, several proper hiking routes fan out from this point, ranging from a gentle valley stroll to genuinely demanding climbs that need proper boots and a full day. The national park charges an entry fee at the trailhead gates, and rangers are usually around to answer questions or check tickets. What surprises a lot of first time visitors is how different the weather can be up here compared with the town just a short drive away, with cloud and wind arriving fast even on a warm summer morning. It suits serious hikers best, but the lower paths near Kuźnice itself are gentle enough for a shorter, easier outing too.
