Tucked away on ulica Kościeliska, a short walk from the noise of the main promenade, this small cemetery holds many of the people who genuinely shaped Zakopane into what it became, from early architects and writers to mountain guides who spent their lives in the Tatras. What sets it apart from an ordinary graveyard is the wood carving. Many of the grave markers are hand carved crosses and headstones in the local highlander style, intricate and clearly made with real skill, so the whole place functions almost as an open air museum of folk art as much as a place of rest.
