This small wooden church predates most of what people now recognise as Zakopane, and standing beside it you get a real sense of how modest and rural the settlement once was before tourism arrived and transformed it. The timber has darkened with age, and the simple, steep roofline is typical of church architecture across this part of Podhale rather than anything showy or grand. Inside, if it is open, the space feels intimate rather than imposing, with worn wooden pews and a plainness that says more about the community that built it than any elaborate decoration could. Standing next to Pęksowy Brzyzek cemetery, the two together give visitors probably the best surviving picture of what the village looked like before the ski lifts and souvenir shops. It rarely takes long to see, and it pairs naturally with a visit to the cemetery and a walk along the older stretch of ulica Kościeliska, forming a short but genuinely rewarding detour from the main tourist route.
