Morskie Oko access, Palenica Białczańska

Morskie Oko access, Palenica Białczańska

Morskie Oko itself sits deep in the mountains, and the only way to reach it on foot is along a wide, well surfaced road that winds gently uphill through forest and open valley from Palenica Białczańska. It is a long walk rather than a technical one, popular with families, older visitors and pretty much everyone in between, since no climbing skills are needed at all, just stamina and decent shoes. Horse drawn carts and a summer shuttle sometimes cover part of the distance for those who would rather not walk the whole way. The car park here fills extremely early in summer, often before sunrise on good weekend days, so most visitors now arrive by bus or minibus from Zakopane rather than driving themselves. Along the route there are a few benches, some viewpoints back down the valley, and eventually the lake itself opens up with the peaks reflected in still water on calm days. It is a full outing rather than a quick stop, so plan the whole day around it.

  • It is a long walk in each direction, so carry water and allow far more time than you think you will need.
