Before Krupówki existed as the town's main draw, there was Kościeliska, and the street still carries that older identity in the buildings that line it. Many of the original highlander farmsteads survive here, low, dark timbered houses with steeply pitched roofs and carved wooden door frames that show real craftsmanship rather than tourist decoration. Some are still lived in, others have been converted into small guesthouses or galleries, but the overall character of the street has stayed remarkably intact compared with the busier parts of town. Walking its length is probably the quickest, most direct lesson available in Podhale architecture, the regional style that shaped so much of what you now see reproduced, sometimes clumsily, in newer buildings across Zakopane. It is a quieter walk than most of the central attractions, with far fewer shops and crowds, which makes it a good choice for anyone who wants a slower, more thoughtful look at the town rather than another round of souvenir browsing.
