Start early. Almost every crowd problem in Zakopane, from funicular queues to packed trailhead car parks, is solved simply by being an hour or two ahead of everyone else.
Worth knowing
Weather in town and weather up on the ridge are effectively two different forecasts. A calm, sunny morning at street level can hide wind, cloud or cold that changes the whole character of a hike a few hundred metres higher.
Local tip
Carry some cash for markets, mountain huts and trailhead entry fees, since not every stall or hut has reliable card payment, and connectivity can be patchy once you are away from the centre.

Zakopane is the highest town in Poland, sitting at roughly 800 to 1000 metres above sea level depending on which part of town you are standing in, which is part of why the air and light here feel noticeably different from Kraków or Warsaw.
None of these are complicated adjustments, but together they change the texture of a visit. A trip built around early starts, some cash in your pocket and an eye on two separate weather pictures tends to go smoothly almost by default.
