🛍️Krupówki

Krupówki is unapologetically touristy, lined with stalls selling sheepskin slippers and smoked cheese alongside fast food and ice cream, and it is also genuinely the centre of town life. Locals cut through it on the way to work, musicians set up outside the wooden restaurants most evenings, and the mountains are visible at the far end whichever direction you are facing. Treat it as a street to walk slowly rather than a place to go shopping with a list, and it turns from overwhelming into something closer to a pleasure.

• ▸Walk the full length once before choosing where to stop, since the character of the street shifts noticeably from one end to the other.
• ▸The upper end near the funicular is busiest and loudest; the lower end and the side streets running off it are calmer and often more interesting.
• ▸Live highlander music appears most evenings, usually outside the wooden karczmas, and it is worth pausing for even if you are not eating there.

Side streets running off Krupówki are where the street loses its crowd and gains some character: smaller galleries, quieter cafes, and the occasional workshop where someone is still carving wood by hand. It is worth a five minute detour whenever one catches your eye, since the main promenade rarely tells you what is one block away.
