Krupówki
This is the pedestrian street where the whole town seems to gather, full of shops, grilled cheese and highlander music.

Gubałówka
This ridge above town delivers the classic panorama of the whole Tatra range in one sweep.

Gubałówka Funicular
This short, steep little railway hauls you from the town centre straight up onto the ridge in a few minutes.

Tatra National Park, Kuźnice
This is the main gateway into the high mountains, and the departure point for the Kasprowy Wierch cable car.
Mountain weather answers to nobody
A clear, warm morning in town tells you almost nothing about conditions higher up on the ridge. Cloud can build over the peaks within an hour, and wind that is barely noticeable at street level becomes something else entirely a few hundred metres higher. Pack a proper layer and a rain shell even when the sky over Krupówki looks completely settled, and treat the forecast for the summit as a separate question from the forecast for the town.
Start early and let everyone else catch up
Trailheads, the Gubałówka funicular and Krupówki itself are all noticeably calmer before mid morning, before the day trip buses arrive and before the queues form properly. The same walk up to a viewpoint or along the promenade feels like a completely different experience with fewer people around it. It costs you an earlier alarm and usually gives back a much better couple of hours in return.
